1. My baby is too young, will he withstand surgery?

We always assess the baby before surgery and plan whether it is an emergency surgery or elective surgery. In these days with modern equipment and post operative care and support, surgery in children is very safe when done in a good hospital.

Sometimes considering the nature of the disease, we do minimal surgery, especially in new born babies to the save child and give temporary relief, (e.g., High Anorectal Anomaly). Definitive surgery is done depending on the weight and general condition of the baby at a later date.

8. My child passes stools with great difficulty, what to do?

Many children have constipation due to dietary habits. Avoid fish, mutton, cakes, biscuits, chapatti, and Junk food. Give plenty of fruits, rice, green vegetable and dates. Toilet training is very important. Parents have to spend some time with the child and encourage him to pass stools daily.

9. How to avoid Burns in children?

  1. Avoid children entering kitchen area
  2. Avoid taking children closer to lighted candles
  3. Prefer cotton dress instead of polyester
  4. During Deepavali, while bursting crackers there should be supervision by elders
  5. Do not lock a child alone in the house
  6. Children should be prevented from going near electric iron and hot water stove
  7. It is safer to keep electrical points covered and away from children
  8. All drugs and chemicals should be kept at a higher level
